A few days ago, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Abyss expedition team completed two 10,000-meter artificial seismic section survey lines in the Mariana Trench Challenger Abyss through the "Exploration No. 1" scientific research vessel, marking China as the world's first successful acquisition of 10,000 meters. In the countries with ocean-level artificial seismic section data, China's submarine seismic observation technology officially went to the “10,000-meter era”. These data are of great significance for understanding and studying the structure of the Mariana Trench subduction zone at the deepest point of the Earth. The success of this test also marks that China has entered the international advanced level in the field of deep seabed seismic detection technology.

From January 25th to now, the expedition team has placed 60 seismic instruments in the Abyss of the Challenger, successfully recovered 56 units, completed two seismic section lines of 670 kilometers, and the maximum depth reached 10027 meters. The experiment used all the submarine seismographs independently researched and developed by the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the abyss environment of 10,000 meters deep, the domestic research equipment has withstood the severe test and achieved breakthroughs in working depth and sea stay time.

The submarine seismograph is an important equipment for geoscience exploration. It records the seismic wave of the deep seabed structure by recording the seismic signal of the seabed, and provides a basis for understanding the internal structure of the earth. The scientific research personnel of the Institute of Geology and Earth Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences started from the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" and continued to support independent innovation and development of domestic technology under the continuous support of the 863 Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance and the major instrument research and development program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After more than 20 years of hard work, the company finally succeeded. The technical difficulties of the deep seabed seismographs in the whole sea have made China the second country after Japan to independently develop the 10,000-meter submarine seismograph.

This voyage also successfully launched and recovered a submarine electromagnetic field instrument independently developed by Geological Earth in the Mariana Trench area. The working depth is 2446 meters, and the natural electric field and magnetic field data of the area are successfully obtained. This is the first time that China's electromagnetic field data obtained in the Mariana Trench area has provided an important basis for studying the deep electromagnetic field structure in the subduction zone.
